Hey, Camping World doesn't recognize Truck Conversions, yet.
I have a Camping World about 30 minutes from my house and shop there often. I've been a member for a few years. This morning I decided to create an on line account because I wanted to order a couple things on their internet special deal. So, I'm filling in the boxes to create the account and there is a mandatory drop down pick box to tell them my "RV type." They have 13 choices there. None is a Truck Conversion. One of them is "Van/Truck/SUV Conversion." Does anybody think that would identify a real "Truck Conversion?" I don't think my rig is in any way close to a SUV or Van conversion. The box is mandatory and there is no "other" or "none of the above" choice. So, I clicked on to chat with a "trained specialist." Here's the chat we had:
You are currently at position number 1 in the queue.
You have been connected to JD.
JD: Hello and Thank You for contacting Camping World. My name is JD. How May I help you?
Robert Winsor: Good morning, JD. I just created my on line account and there is a mandatory pick box to identify what type of camper I have. There is no choice that applies to my type of camper. I have a Truck Conversion. This is a semi truck type chassis that has living quarters built onto it. They are less common in the traditional camping circles but very common in the horse and race car circles. Might it be possible to add the Truck Conversion type of camper to the choices?
JD: I appreciate your inquiry, however this cannot be done on the fly like this. I can report this the the web development team and see if they can accommodate. Is there a specific name for what your camper is?
Robert Winsor: The company that built mine is out of business, as so many went in 2009. Mine is a United Specialties make. There are still several manufacturers building Truck Conversions. Haulmark, Showhauler, Renegade, NRC, Powerhouse Coach, Hawk Engineering, etc.... The people that own these type of rv's generally don't care to have them referred to as a class A or C since they are clearly in a class of their own. It would be great if you could confer with the web people and let them know there is another type of camper that should be added to the choices. They don't even have a "other" or "none of the above" choice and it's mandatory so they are forcing a Truck Conversion owner to select some other type of camper that isn't of their type.
JD: I appreciate you bring this to my attention.
JD: I will defiantly get this to the developers.
Robert Winsor: That would be great if you could. I do often shop at my local Camping World. It's only today that I decided to create an on line account and discovered the issue. I hope the powers that be will see the error in their choices box and add a catagory. Have a great day!
JD: Thank you and have a wonderful day as well.
Sounds good to me. Maybe other T/C owners might take a moment to go to Camping World and have a similar chat? Spread the word about our unique and distinct chassis type? We can only benefit from more exposure to our type of rigs.
