Illinois Medium Truck Conversion to RV Title and Plates
I've purchased a medium truck that I will be converting to an RV. It is under CDL, but requires in IL a Class C driver's License. To simplify things, I'll have a friend drive it to my home after purchase, and I'll do the conversion on the driveway. He will drive it to the police inspection site so I can qualify for and apply for RV plates. Then I can drive it on my Class D license. This part I have covered.
It is very clear online what it takes to get inspected and to procure RV license plates for a truck conversion. I was able to find the documentation for the fairly standard "walk from driver seat to LQ, and need 4 of 6 of the following items" to pass the inspection.
I can handle that. I'd like to go straight from my temporary out of state plates (good for 60 days I believe) to RV plates. I will probably only be able to do the bare minimum of the conversion in that time.
I'm pretty sure there are numerous advantages to getting my title to read motorhome or RV the first time I title this truck in my name.
I can not find any online references for Illinois RV conversions rules or regulations. There is a section for custom conversion cars, cobra etc....but not for truck to RV type conversion...
Anyone go through this in Illinois?
I assume the old title I get for the truck with purchase will say truck, but I want it to say motorhome or RV the first time I get a title in my name.
Thanks for help in advance.
