You want to change out the Bull gear (The bearings can fail.) at maximum of 700,000 miles.
I personally have overhauled early Series 60 (1992-1995) with 1.2 to 1.4 million miles. Bearings still looked great and all inside parts were still working with no issues.
Biggest concern and this is for any diesel engine, is proper cooling system maintenance. Keep up on the Nitrates and change the coolant...Its a lot cheaper than cylinder liners or counter bore repairs.
